The Adult Mental Health Unit (AMHU) provides a safe and supportive environment if you are receiving care for acute mental illness or disorder. The unit provides short term individualised care which supports you to safely return back to your community.
Located at the Canberra Hospital, the purpose built facility contains 37 beds and offers a range of amenities including individual rooms, a gymnasium and spiritual room.
Accessing the service
You may be admitted to this unit if you come to the emergency department and may be experiencing a mental health crisis. We will generally admit you if health professionals need more time to assess your condition.
Admission to the unit may be voluntary or involuntary.
Visiting hours
Monday to Friday: 12.30pm – 1.30pm and 4pm – 8pm
Weekends and public holidays: 9am – 8pm
