The Connection is the Indigenous program of CAHMA. Like CAHMA, The Connection is a peer based service, run for and by users and ex-users but focusing on the needs of the Indigenous community.
The Connection aims to provide the care needed to overcome the barriers that come with AOD issues to help all service users prioritise and reach their goals for positive good health, harm minimisation, and wellbeing. We hope for positive outcomes in empowering service users to set a better future for themselves and their families.
The Connection offers a range of services including; peer support, representation and advocacy, referrals, information services and education & training.
We aim to promote improved health for Indigenous drug users and seek to reduce the harms associated with drug use through the provision of projects such as health and wellbeing groups and group art workshops that have proven to be therapeutic for both our indigenous and non-indigenous service users in the past.
The Connection is a great way for the indigenous service users to build trust and rapport in working to provide the cultural connection and understanding between the service user and worker which in the long run will help both service user and the worker achieve the goals at hand.
