The Throughcare Outreach Service works in conjunction with ACT Corrective Services and is a voluntary program available to some adults exiting prison in the ACT. This program offers short term (between 2-4weeks) practical assistance and support to help you to settle back into community.
Where possible, our Throughcare Outreach Workers will meet with you prior to your release to help you plan for the transition out of prison and back into community. Dependant on your needs, the Throughcare Outreach Service may support you with transport on the day of your release and assistance to organise practical items such as setting up Centrelink and accessing public transport.
Your Throughcare Outreach Worker may also assist with referrals and help you link with key services such as:
GP’s and specialist health services
Counselling and mental health services to maintain health and wellbeing
Drug and alcohol programs if you struggle with substance abuse
Services to assist you with your accommodation needs
Education, training and employment services to help get you back into the workforce
Other services which will assist you to build community connections and supports
